Nerja, Spain
Located approximately 50 kilometers from the provincial capital Malaga, this tourist favorite is known as the "Balcony of the Mediterranean". It's a beautiful and picturesque fishing town. Its famous Balcón de Europa (Balcony of Europe), formerly known as the Torre de los Guardas (Watchman's Tower), is now a look-out point from which you can enjoy incredible views of the coast.
Nerja also has the famous Nerja Caves, which are located within the town's limits. They were discovered in 1959 by a group of teenagers who were trying to hunt bats.
They were opened to the public one year later, in 1960, and the year after that they were named a National Historic Artistic Monument. Shortly after, the High Galleries, and then the New Galleries, were discovered.
